Tether backs Saber Money as payments firm targets Asia and Gulf expansion

Saber Money has secured strategic funding from stablecoin issuer Tether and CMCC Global’s Titan Fund to expand its cross-border payment operations across Asia-Pacific and the Gulf region.

According to the company’s announcement, the investment will support new regulatory licenses, banking partnerships and payment products designed for businesses operating across emerging markets. Saber did not disclose the amount raised or the valuation attached to the funding.

The company plans to use the capital to strengthen its operations in existing markets while entering new payment corridors. Local banking relationships and regulatory approvals will be central to its expansion strategy, particularly in markets where international transfers remain costly or depend on several intermediaries.

Saber operates payment infrastructure that allows financial institutions, fintech companies and businesses to transfer funds internationally using stablecoins. Its services cover remittances, payroll and other business payments through application programming interfaces.

Saber Money plans new licenses and banking partnerships

Saber currently holds licenses, registrations and authorizations across Canada, the European Union, India and Australia. Its corporate group operates Mudrex, an Indian cryptocurrency exchange.

Over the past nine months, the company said its payment volumes had grown more than sixfold, with billions of dollars processed across more than 40 countries.

More than 90% of its transactions are completed in under one minute, according to Saber. The company did not provide a detailed breakdown of payment volumes by market or disclose the average transaction size.

The expansion will focus partly on securing direct access to local banking networks. Such arrangements form part of Saber’s plan to improve settlement costs and offer payment services tailored to individual markets.

Saber CEO Edul Patel said the company was working to make stablecoin-based payment infrastructure available to businesses across Asia-Pacific and the Gulf, where demand for international transfers continues to grow.

The company intends to develop services for businesses paying overseas suppliers, managing corporate treasury operations and transferring working capital between countries.

Its existing infrastructure supports payments around the clock, allowing clients to initiate transfers outside conventional banking hours.

Tether investment supports emerging market payment infrastructure

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino described emerging markets as an important area for stablecoin payment adoption, pointing to Saber’s regulatory presence and access to financial systems across Asia and the Middle East.

Ardoino said stablecoin settlement could change the costs involved in international payments, particularly for businesses that rely on multiple financial intermediaries.

The investment comes alongside backing from CMCC Global’s Titan Fund, a Hong Kong-based investment vehicle focused on blockchain-related businesses.

Titan Fund co-founder and managing partner Shiau Sin Yen pointed to Asia’s role in international remittances, stating that the region contributes approximately 53% of global remittance flows.

Shiau cited projections that cross-border business-to-business stablecoin payments could reach $5 trillion by 2035. The announcement did not identify the underlying research behind that estimate.

Saber counts Y Combinator and Nexus Ventures among its existing investors, alongside Tether and Titan Fund.

In a separate investment announced on Oct. 13, Tether backed EFY Finance, a Latin American fintech company offering stablecoin payment services across 17 countries. EFY provides digital wallets, custody, payment cards and conversion services, with more than 25,000 accounts reported across its network.

Tether previously invested in LemFi in May 2026 to support USDT settlement for remittances between developed economies and markets in Africa and Asia, as crypto.news reported.

Corporate treasury payments have been another area of activity. In July, Hyundai Motor completed a $20,000 cross-border transfer between its American and Mexican operations using USDT on Avalanche. The payment settled in approximately seven minutes, with the receiving company converting the stablecoins back into conventional currency.

Asia and Gulf payment corridors attract stablecoin providers

Asia accounts for roughly 35% of global payment flows, according to figures cited in Saber’s announcement. South Asia and East Asia and the Pacific collectively receive more than $1 trillion annually, while the United Arab Emirates recorded approximately AED 188 billion in outbound remittances in 2025.

The company identified international trade, migration and digital commerce as factors supporting demand for payment services in the two regions.

Other payment infrastructure companies have been raising capital to serve similar markets. In September, Fin.com secured $20 million in seed funding to develop stablecoin payment services across South Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Fin.com said its infrastructure supported more than 40 currencies and payouts across over 30 countries, with services designed to move stablecoins into local bank accounts and digital wallets.

Local currency settlement remains an operational challenge for payment providers. In August, Gravity Team CEO Mārtiņš Beņķītis said stablecoin transfers could be completed within seconds, but converting the funds into local currencies still required banking connections and sufficient liquidity in individual markets.

Gravity Team subsequently introduced an institutional trading desk offering same-day fiat settlement in more than 20 currencies, subject to local banking conditions.

Saber has not announced which countries it will enter next, the specific licenses it intends to seek or a launch schedule for its planned B2B payment products.
