A heavily pregnant Ugandan woman who was allegedly deserted by her husband upon discovering she was carrying twins has become the focus of a remarkable fundraising effort after US philanthropist Samuel Weidenhofer shared her story online.

Weidenhofer, who documents acts of kindness on social media, encountered the expectant mother in Uganda just days before she was due to give birth.
Surprise Gift and Overnight Miracle
Despite being in the final stretch of her pregnancy, she was putting in 12-hour days, six days a week, doing gardening work to cover her basic needs and prepare for the arrival of her babies.
Her situation was further complicated by her husband's alleged departure after he learnt she was carrying twins, leaving her entirely without family support during one of the most physically demanding periods of a woman's life.
Weidenhofer described the woman's circumstances as heartbreaking in a Facebook post, noting that she required a surgical procedure costing 800,000 Ugandan shillings to give herself and her unborn children a chance of surviving childbirth.
He stepped in personally, surprising her with UGX 1 million to help cover the cost, and quietly handed her an additional UGX 1 million away from the camera.
Nursery on the Horizon
After sharing her story publicly, the response was swift. By the following morning, supporters had collectively contributed AUD 14,000, roughly KSh 1.2 million, to the fundraiser.
Weidenhofer put the figure into context, noting it was the equivalent of approximately 11 years of the woman's earnings.
The philanthropist said the money raised could go far beyond medical care. He aims to gather enough funds to purchase a home for the mother and set up a nursery where she can raise her twins in a stable environment.
"Just imagine going from not knowing how you'll survive childbirth to potentially having a home to bring your babies back to," he wrote.
At the time of writing, Weidenhofer was still awaiting news on whether the mother and her twins had come through the birth safely, and he expressed genuine hope that all three would be well.
The story has drawn attention to the compounding pressures some expectant mothers face when financial hardship and absent partners collide at the most vulnerable stage of pregnancy.
For this Ugandan woman, the immediate priority remains a safe delivery, while the generosity of strangers has opened the door to a future she could not have imagined days earlier.
