About 11.23 lakh automobiles were retailed in ten days of Navratri this year (Navratri’26), up 27% over Navratri’24 — the last comparable festive period, according to provisional data released by Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) on Wednesday.
Passenger Vehicles retails higher by over 10% and Two-Wheelers by more than 32%, data showed.
But there has been a 6.52% dip as compared to Navratri’25. According to FADA the figures were not comparable as last year’s Navratri ran for eleven days against ten and coincided with the GST 2.0 roll-out, which pulled a wave of pent-up demand.
As per FADA data EV retails grew 26.78% and now account for close to 10.5% of festive sales, up from about 7.7% a year ago, showing that India’s EV shift has become self-sustaining.
“Navratri’26 tells a fundamentally healthy story. As we enter the Dhanteras-to-Diwali wave, we remain cautiously optimistic: affordability is strong, aspiration is rising, and auto retail continues to mirror the enduring momentum of the India growth story,” said Mr Sai Giridhar, President, FADA.
Commenting on the festive sales Tarun Garg, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) said, “This year, the festive season has started on a strong note for us, driven by robust Onam and Ganesh Chaturthi sales. During Shradh and Navratri, we witnessed registrations grow by 30% YoY to nearly 41,000 units.”
“Considering the pace of bookings, we expect momentum to continue through Dhanteras and Diwali,” he added.
“Demand remains healthy across both urban and rural markets. We are also seeing a strong customer interest in our new name plate, Hyundai BAYON, which will be launched early next week,” he added.
