The Huawei Mate X7 launched in November 2025, so it is hardly surprising that the Mate X8 is now nearly ready for launch. According to the latest rumors circulating on the Chinese social network Weibo, the foldable flagship is expected to be officially unveiled between late October and late November.
The Huawei Mate X8 is expected to offer some features that are unusual for foldables. This starts with the comparatively large battery, which reportedly has a capacity of at least 6,000 mAh. At least one of the screens is expected to offer a Privacy Display similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra ($1,599 on Amazon), allowing viewing angles to be restricted at the touch of a button to protect sensitive data from prying eyes. However, it is unclear whether both the 8.15-inch main display and the 6.5-inch secondary display will be Privacy Displays.
Huawei is expected to offer variants based on the HiSilicon Kirin 9050 and the Kirin 9050 Pro. As with the Mate X7, Huawei is expected to equip the Mate X8 with a 50-megapixel main camera that combines a relatively large 1/1.28-inch sensor with a variable-aperture lens – a real rarity, and not just among foldable smartphones. This gives photographers additional control over depth of field in photos and videos. According to earlier rumors, the main camera uses a new sensor and a lens with an upgraded focus motor, allowing for a more compact design. In addition, the Mate X8 reportedly offers a 50 MP periscope telephoto camera with an RYYB sensor.
