PETALING JAYA: National mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing’s remarkable run at the French Open came to an end in the final today when they were outplayed by China’s world No 1 pair, Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping.
It was the second time that the Chinese pair had denied the Malaysians their first World Tour title after their encounter in the China Masters final last month.
Pang Ron-Pei Jing, who were playing in only their ninth tournament since pairing up in May, went down 10-21, 13-21 in 36 minutes at the Arena Grand Paris.
Yan Zhe-Dong Ping have now beaten them in all three encounters so far.
Despite their loss, Pang Ron-Pei Jing have had a superb run on the world tour, finishing as runners-up in the China Open last month, and as semi-finalists in the Denmark Open last week and the Macau Open in June.
Yesterday, they also became the first professional Malaysian mixed doubles pair to enter the French Open final in the tournament’s 117-year history.
