Volkswagen’s upcoming electric car will be smaller and lower-priced than the ID. Polo, starting at around €20,000 ($22,500).
Volkswagen’s €20,000 entry-level EV will launch in 2027
The new Electric Urban Car Family is the Volkswagen Group’s answer to Chinese automakers like BYD: a new lineup of compact, entry-level electric cars.
The lineup currently includes the Volkswagen ID. Polo, ID. Cross, plus the Cupra Raval and Skoda Epiq, all based on the same MEB+ platform.
After launching the lower-priced base versions of the ID. Polo and ID. Cross, starting at €24,995 and €27,995, respectively, Volkswagen is preparing to introduce an even smaller, more affordable EV in 2027.
Volkswagen revealed the ID. EVERY1 concept car last March, a preview of its upcoming entry-level EV that will arrive in 2027 starting at around €20,000.
The ID. EVERY1, which is expected to go on sale as the ID. Up! next year, is “the last piece of the puzzle,” VW brand CEO Thomas Schäfer said, as it aims to offer the widest selection in the volume segment.

With a length of 3,880 mm, the entry-level EV is positioned between the former Up! (3,600 mm) and ID. Polo (4,053 mm). Although that is tiny, VW said it will offer space for four passengers and a luggage compartment volume of 305 liters.
Volkswagen has yet to reveal details, but the €20,000 EV is expected to use the same 37 kWh LFP battery as the base ID. Polo and ID. Cross to keep costs down.
The ID. Polo with the 37 kWh battery has a WLTP range of up to 334 km (207 miles), so the smaller model will likely offer around the same or slightly more range.

Volkswagen said it will offer at least 250 km (155 miles) of range. It will also use a new 70 kW (94 hp) electric motor, enabling a top speed of 130 km/h (80 mph).
The production version of the ID. EVERY1 will be one of nine new models VW plans to launch by 2027.
Volkswagen delivered on its promise to launch the ID. Polo with the 37 kWh battery for under €25,000. Will it do the same with the new entry-level model at around €20,000? We will find out shortly.
According to Spanish auto magazine Autofácil, Volkswagen could manufacture the €20,000 EV in Spain, although Volkswagen has yet to confirm a production site.
The Group currently produces the ID. Polo and Cupra Raval at its Martorell plant, while the ID. Cross and Skoda Epiq are manufactured at the Navarra plant, both in Spain.
Volkswagen’s new Electric Urban Car Family is off to a promising start, securing nearly 150,000 orders after series production began in June.
While those in the US will miss out on the new entry-level EV, Volkswagen is launching the ID. Tiguan in 2027 as a replacement for the ID.4.
