President Donald Trump’s artificial intelligence (AI) task force, the Super Intelligence Force, will commission a report from the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology to evaluate potential dangers of the technology, Bloomberg reported Thursday (Oct. 15), citing a White House account of a meeting.
Thursday’s meeting was the first one held by the task force, according to the report.
The task force also agreed during the meeting to develop “protocols and mechanisms” for AI companies to provide early warnings and notifications about issues such as breaches, hacks and jailbreaks, the report said.

It also agreed to establish a “law enforcement and consumer protection coordination committee” that will include the Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission and other agencies, per the report.
The White House account of the meeting said, per the report, the task force did not consider new laws or rules but “will engage with frontier model developers and other [AI] companies, consumer protection groups and civil liberties advocates, industry stakeholders, and federal and state law enforcement agencies to inform and implement its efforts.”
Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton, who was appointed AI czar in early October, told CNBC Friday (Oct. 16) that the task force’s inaugural meeting was “very good” and built on the accord that Trump and several AI leaders signed last month.
Clayton said in the report that the United States is not the only country developing AI, and that the Trump administration aims to ensure the country stays ahead in the AI race.
“The Chinese, the Russians, the Iranians, the North Koreans all have significant technical capability,” Clayton said. “We need to stay ahead of them.”
The Wall Street Journal reported Oct. 3 that Clayton said the White House gave the AI task force 120 days to report on the risks and rewards of the technology.
“The risk of not being first is high,” Clayton told the WSJ, speaking of the AI race. “Not being first increases the identified, and unidentified, risks, particularly from our adversaries. Being first will better enable us to address those risks on behalf of the American people.”
