The advisory, issued on Thursday, October 15, 2026, came after reports emerged that a Kenyan truck driver identified as Mohamed Tahlil had been killed along the corridor, prompting the association to alert all drivers and conductors operating on the route.
"We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, and the wider transport fraternity affected by these tragic incidents," LoDDCA said.
LoDDCA calls for government action
In the advisory, LoDDCA urged both the Kenyan and DRC governments to strengthen cross-border security coordination to protect long-haul drivers and conductors working along the volatile route.
The association described the situation as posing a serious threat to the safety of transport workers using the corridor.
"Suspend all non-essential travel along the Mahagi–Pimbo–Djugu–Bunia–Kisangani corridor until the security situation is verified to be safe; refrain from dispatching trucks and transport personnel into affected areas without reliable security clearance and updated risk assessments; and ensure drivers currently within the affected corridor seek safe locations, maintain communication with fleet managers, and strictly follow guidance from recognised security and local authorities," the statement read.
LoDDCA, which is headquartered at Njengi House on Tom Mboya Street in Nakuru, represents long-distance drivers and conductors operating across East and Central Africa.
The organisation characterised the advisory as applying to all those driving into the DRC via Mahagi through Pimbo, Bunia, and onwards to Kisangani.
Security concerns along the DRC Route
The Mahagi–Kisangani corridor passes through parts of the Ituri province in northeastern DRC, a region that has experienced prolonged instability linked to armed group activity.
Long-haul drivers using the route are frequently exposed to security risks, including attacks on commercial vehicles.
LoDDCA's decision to formally advise against non-essential travel signals a significant deterioration in conditions along the corridor.
The association's communication urged member drivers to observe the advisory until adequate security guarantees could be established by the relevant authorities on both sides of the border.
