Senator representing Zamfara West and Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC-PCC), Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has explained the reason behind his team’s recent consultations with prominent traditional rulers across geopolitical zones.
He told newsmen that the traditional rulers are the closest to the electorate at the grassroots and must be carried along.
He spoke with journalists after the inaugural meeting of the APC PCC held in Abuja on Tuesday.

Checks revealed that Senator Yari on Sunday led some chieftains of the party to a meeting with His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), the Ooni of Ife, and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Kolapo Sulu-Gambari.
On Monday, he also met with three top traditional rulers in the North West region:
His Royal Highness, the Emir of Gwandu; His Royal Highness, the Emir of Katsina; His Royal Highness, the Emir of Daura; and His Royal Highness, the Emir of Zaria.
The DG, APC-PCC, maintained that the buy-in of the traditional rulers was necessary for the victory of the APC Presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He said: “We are still on with traditional rulers. As I said, we are visiting the royal fathers because we just seek their blessing. We need their prayers. And being the authority closest to the masses of the country, we need to go and explain to them where we are and where we want to go.”
Senator Yari also disclosed that the campaigns will kick off in the North-West state of Kaduna on Saturday.
He further reaffirmed the commitment of his team to bury their differences and work for the victory of the party.
“This meeting was a short one. What we did, we directed the directorates to go and work to come up with their work plan and how best they are going to carry out this responsibility. We reminded them that we are all here on trust. Each and every person who sits down under this roof is a trustee of the president. The president trusted us and he gave us this responsibility. We must carry it out well and very, very well.“
