KUNDASANG: A slope collapse measuring about 25 metres high, triggered by continuous heavy rain, damaged the rear wall of a house in Kampung Pogun and Kampung Dumpiring Atas here yesterday.
No injuries or fatalities were reported, while another nearby house was found to be safe and undamaged.
The Civil Defence Force (APM), through the Kundasang Civil Defence Unit Centre (PUPA), deployed an officer and two personnel to monitor the site today.
APM said preliminary inspections found that the slope collapse was caused by continuous heavy rain in the area.
"As a safety measure, APM personnel and village residents installed a tarpaulin over the collapsed slope to prevent water from accumulating and reduce the risk of further soil erosion.
"Monitoring is also being carried out to ensure the safety of residents in the surrounding area," it said in a statement today.
APM advised residents, particularly those living on slopes and in high-risk areas, to remain alert for signs of ground movement.
Residents were also urged to follow safety instructions and move to a safer location immediately if they detected early signs of a landslide.
Continuous heavy rain since yesterday evening had also triggered landslides and flash floods in several areas around Kundasang.
These included an incident involving a Perodua Kancil, which was believed to have been swept away by strong currents before overturning on a roadside embankment in Kampung Sinisian.
District police chief Superintendent Mursalin Mahmud was reported as saying that another landslide occurred behind Surau Al-Taqwah in Kampung Dumpiring Bawah.
An overflow of water mixed with rocks also affected the main road connecting Kampung Pahu to Kampung Himbaan in Bundu Tuhan.
