Indiana Fever sharpshooter Sophie Cunningham is staying active beyond the court, and she recently provided some news off the hardwood that takes her well out of Indiana this month of November.
Now that the veteran is getting set for a must-attend offseason, Cunningham took to social media to alert basketball fans about an upcoming public appearance. Prime Time Sports & Framing announced that the 6-1 guard will be headed to the Windy City for the Chicago Sports Spectacular.
“CHICAGO, SOPHIE IS COMING YOUR WAY! Prime Time Sports & Framing will have Sophie Cunningham at the Chicago Sports Spectacular on November 20th for autographs and photo opportunities,” the report said.
The event will be held at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill.
Cunningham will be among a field of athletes who are set to headline the first day (Nov. 20) of the three-day fan celebration along with NFL Hall of Famer Brett Favre, former Chicago Cubs star Anthony Rizzo and Basketball Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson.
This off-court involvement arrives at an interesting point in her career, after the end of her second season with the Indiana Fever.
Cunningham was a consistent presence on the floor, playing in 43 of 44 possible games, consistently spacing the floor and averaging 7.9 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists while hitting 41.9% of her three-point attempts.
The Fever had a franchise-record 28 wins in the regular season, but ended their postseason with a first-round series loss to the reigning champions, the Las Vegas Aces.
Now, heading into her ninth season in the WNBA, she is not quite sure what the future holds.
Sophie Cunningham’s one-year deal will expire this offseason and the veteran may find herself back on the market as an unrestricted free agent, leaving players and fans to wonder whether she will be back in Indiana next season.
