The Adamawa State government on Friday approved contracts worth more than N5.6 billion for projects covering education, healthcare, environmental sanitation, housing and airport infrastructure.
The approvals were made at the 18th State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri at the government house, Yola.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the commissioner for information and strategy, Leader Leneke, said the council also approved N176.8 million for the procurement of instructional materials.
He said the council also approved the printing of learning materials for public secondary schools in the state.
Mr Leneke said N212.9 million was approved for the construction of 100 heavy-duty metal waste bins to be installed at various locations within the state capital, Yola, to improve environmental sanitation and sustain urban renewal efforts.
In the health sector, Mr Leneke said the council approved N295.7 million for the construction of a computed tomography (CT scan) block at the General Hospital, Michika.
“Another N1.34 billion was approved for the procurement of a 32-slice CT scan machine for the hospital to strengthen diagnostic services and improve access to specialised healthcare,’’ he said.
The commissioner said the council had also approved N249.9 million for the construction of a multipurpose community hall in Prambe, with a completion period of six months.
According to him, the council approved a contract worth N1.43 billion to build a new deputy governor’s office complex to address the shortage of office space at the existing facility.
He explained that the space constraint necessitated the relocation of the deputy governor’s office to Government House.
The council, he said, further approved N1.90 billion for the construction of a new presidential lounge at Aliyu Mustapha International Airport, Yola.
Mr Leneke said the facility would provide improved amenities for dignitaries and other VIP passengers using the airport.
He said that the projects, when completed, are expected to improve public service delivery, strengthen healthcare infrastructure, support environmental sanitation, and enhance facilities for government officials and airport users.
The commissioner said the approvals underscored the Fintiri administration’s commitment to implementing development-oriented projects across Adamawa.
He added that the investments were aimed at addressing infrastructure gaps and improving the quality of services available to residents of the state.
