KUALA LUMPUR: Six Pakistanis were detained for suspected immigration offences during a multi-agency enforcement operation at two religious premises in Gombak, Selangor, yesterday.
The operation involved 207 personnel from six enforcement agencies, with 184 people inspected at the two locations in Batu Caves.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the operation was coordinated by the Gombak district police headquarters and involved the police, Home Ministry, Immigration Department, Selayang Municipal Council, fire and rescue department and Registrar of Societies (ROS).
Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said 76 people were brought to the Gombak district police headquarters for further checks following enforcement activities at a mosque in Kampung Nakhoda and another religious premises along Jalan Laksamana in Kampung Laksamana.
He said the six Pakistanis were detained after checks on their documents revealed suspected offences under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, which concerns foreigners entering or remaining in Malaysia without valid passes or permits.
Shazeli said the Home Ministry also took enforcement action over offences under the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 and the Printing of Quranic Texts Act 1986.
Meanwhile, ROS seized documents and other materials for further examination.
The Selayang Municipal Council also took action over business licensing violations and unauthorised construction activities, including issuing notices and carrying out seizures under the relevant laws.
Inspections by the Fire and Rescue Department found fire safety non-compliance, including insufficient fire extinguishers and inadequate emergency exits in buildings.
Shazeli said the respective agencies would take further action within their jurisdictions.
He also clarified that the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) was not involved in the operation.
The operation was conducted smoothly without any untoward incidents, he said.
