Ethereum's potential bullish cycle in 2026 depends on institutional investment, staking participation, network improvements, and broader cryptocurrency sentiment. Although ETH has recovered from earlier declines, recent exchange-traded fund outflows and macroeconomic uncertainty demonstrate why a sustained rally remains uncertain.
Ethereum Price Recovery and Structure
Ethereum experienced substantial volatility throughout 2026. According to CoinMarketCap, ETH traded near USD 2,446.74 with an increase of 3.87% in the last 24 hours. ETH still trades around 50.57% below its August 2025 peak of USD 4,950.
ETH traded near USD 1,550 in late June, which means the token has staged nearly 61% appreciation from that level, although prices remained considerably below previous highs. A sustained recovery would require stronger buying demand and improving market liquidity.
Ethereum holds above its major EMAs, keeping the broader bias moderately bullish despite the recent pullback. The 100-day and 200-day EMAs are at USD 2,356 and USD 2,309, respectively, while the 50-day EMA at USD 2,493 now caps the upside as immediate resistance.
On the downside, immediate support is around the USD 2,400 level, ahead of the 100-day EMA near USD 2,356 and the 200-day EMA at USD 2,309. On the upside, ETH needs to reclaim the 50-day EMA at USD 2,493 to revive bullish momentum.
Institutional ETF Flows Remain Important
Institutional participation could influence Ethereum's next market cycle through regulated investment products. According to SoSoValue, US spot Ethereum ETFs witnessed approximately USD 715 million in cumulative outflows between October 1 and October 13. However, October 13 recorded USD 24.84 million in inflows, followed by another USD 19.7 million outflow on October 14.
These fluctuations indicate inconsistent institutional demand rather than an established bullish reversal. Meanwhile, BlackRock's iShares Staked Ethereum Trust held 440,929 ETH on October 8, with approximately 337,190 ETH staked, according to Ethereum Institutional.
Staking Could Reduce Liquid Supply
Ethereum staking creates another potential catalyst by committing tokens to network validation.
September reports indicated that more than 42 million ETH were staked, representing roughly one-third of circulating supply.
Higher staking participation can reduce immediately available exchange supply, potentially strengthening price responses when demand increases. However, staked ETH remains subject to withdrawals, and reduced liquidity can amplify downward volatility.
Network Upgrades Strengthen Ethereum's Outlook
Ethereum's Fusaka upgrade expanded data availability capacity by up to eight times and increased its Layer 1 gas limit from approximately 45 million to 60 million, according to Ethereum's institutional documentation. These changes aim to lower Layer 2 costs and improve throughput.
The forthcoming Glamsterdam upgrade targets block production and execution improvements. P2P.org reported that Glamsterdam activated on the Sepolia testnet on October 6, although its mainnet launch date remained unconfirmed.
Improved scalability could attract decentralized finance applications, stablecoin issuers and businesses seeking blockchain settlement. Nevertheless, cheaper transactions do not automatically translate into higher ETH prices, as network fees and token demand also matter.
What Could Trigger a Bullish Cycle?
A bullish scenario would combine sustained ETF inflows, rising network usage, growing staking demand, and stronger ETH performance against Bitcoin. Investors should monitor derivatives leverage, exchange balances, and interest rates.
Conversely, persistent ETF withdrawals, competition from alternative blockchains and weak economic conditions could interrupt recovery. Price forecasts remain scenarios rather than reliable predictions.
Final Thoughts
Ethereum’s 2026 outlook combines improving infrastructure with uncertain capital flows. Staking and institutional products support its investment narrative, but confirmation of a bullish cycle requires consistent demand, expanding activity, and durable price momentum.

FAQs:
1. Is Ethereum expected to enter a bullish cycle in 2026?
Ethereum could enter a bullish cycle if institutional ETF inflows strengthen, staking participation increases, and network activity continues expanding. However, sustained price momentum and improving market liquidity are necessary to confirm a broader bullish trend.
2. What are Ethereum's key support and resistance levels in October 2026?
Ethereum faces immediate resistance near USD 2,493, corresponding to its 50-day exponential moving average (EMA). Important support levels include USD 2,400, followed by the 100-day EMA at USD 2,356 and the 200-day EMA near USD 2,309.
3. How do Ethereum ETF inflows and outflows affect ETH prices?
Ethereum ETF inflows can increase investment demand and strengthen institutional participation, potentially supporting ETH prices. Conversely, sustained ETF outflows may indicate weaker investor appetite and create additional selling pressure.
4. How does Ethereum staking influence its potential bullish cycle?
Ethereum staking involves locking ETH into the network's validation system, potentially reducing the amount of cryptocurrency immediately available for trading. With more than 42 million ETH reportedly staked, growing participation could influence liquid supply, although it does not guarantee price appreciation.
5. How could the Fusaka and Glamsterdam upgrades affect Ethereum's future?
The Fusaka upgrade improves Ethereum's data availability and network capacity, supporting more efficient Layer 2 transactions. The planned Glamsterdam upgrade targets further execution and block production improvements, potentially strengthening Ethereum's scalability and long-term ecosystem adoption.
