A shooting near a university in Florida during a homecoming party left 11 people with gunshot wounds and one other person injured.
The shooting occurred on the 24th local time on Perry Street near the campus of Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida, Reuters reported. Police counted six adults and six minors among the injured.
Tallahassee police said in a statement that at least three of those injured were critically hurt, while the remaining nine were believed to be in stable condition. An initial investigation indicated that a physical fight preceded the shooting, police said, without providing details.
The New York Post reported that the youngest person struck by gunfire was 11 years old. The newspaper added that an argument at the homecoming party escalated into gunfire, with a fight involving two or three people leading to shots just before 8 p.m.
Police Chief Lawrence Revell said it was especially heartbreaking that children were among the wounded. The university said on X, formerly Twitter, that the safety of its students, faculty and staff remained its top priority.
