Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has said that the province needs smaller administrative units, including new divisions and districts, alongside the creation of new provinces, to ensure easier public access to civil administration and government departments.
Addressing a press conference in North Dera Bugti on Friday, the chief minister announced that all divisional posts for the newly established Koh-e-Suleman Division had been approved and that officers and staff would be appointed shortly.
He said the establishment of smaller administrative units was essential to bring government services closer to the people and ensure effective governance at the grassroots level.
Sarfraz Bugti noted that while debates on creating smaller administrative units had recently gained momentum across the country, the Balochistan government had begun working on the initiative two years ago, taking into account the province’s unique geographical conditions and public needs.
The chief minister said the administrative structure must be organized in a manner that enables state institutions and the civil administration to remain close to the public, reducing the difficulties faced by citizens in accessing government services and resolving official matters.
Speaking about Rakhni, which serves as the headquarters of Koh-e-Suleman Division, Bugti said the government was taking concrete steps to transform it into a model division and a symbol of development.
He remarked that Rakhni should have been granted divisional status much earlier, but added that the development process had now begun in earnest.
He emphasized that strict directions had been issued to keep development projects in Rakhni free from corruption and commission-based practices. According to the chief minister, the Communications and Works Department is directly implementing development schemes to ensure transparency and accountability.
“Our objective is to develop Rakhni into a model division where projects are completed in a transparent manner and the benefits reach the people,” he said.
Referring to a recent terrorist incident in Gwadar, the chief minister praised security forces for thwarting an attempt to target a construction company’s building. He commended the sacrifices and operations of the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps and police in the fight against terrorism in Balochistan.
Bugti said a decline in terrorist incidents in the province since August was a positive development and reflected the continuous efforts of security forces. He stressed that operations against terrorism must continue and expressed hope that Balochistan would ultimately be freed from the menace of terrorism.
