Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the machete-point robbery of two iPhones from a couple in Dhaka's Mohammadpur, with three previous robbery cases against him, according to police.
The arrestee was identified as Manik Mia.
Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Halim confirmed the arrest, adding that efforts were underway to recover the stolen phones.
The robbery took place between 3:45pm and 4pm yesterday (21 October) in front of house no. 7 at 4 Salimullah Road under Mohammadpur Police Station.
CCTV footage showed four men, aged between 20 and 25, arriving at the scene in an auto-rickshaw carrying machetes before snatching two iPhones from a young couple.
When people nearby tried to intervene, the assailants threatened them with machetes before fleeing in the auto-rickshaw. No one was physically injured in the incident, police said.
Police launched an operation soon after the robbery to identify and arrest those involved and recover the stolen phones, the OC said.
