By Zoila Palma: Today, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez accused the United States of threatening United Nations member states with sanctions if they vote in favor of a resolution calling for an end to the US trade embargo on Cuba.
Rodriguez made the allegations during a press conference in Havana, ahead of the annual UN General Assembly vote expected on October 27 and 28, Reuters report.
Rodriguez claimed US officials had applied unprecedented pressure on member states, including threats to deny visas, impose punitive tariffs and introduce trade and economic sanctions.
He also alleged that Washington had threatened to suspend cooperation programs and interfere in the domestic political affairs of countries supporting Cuba.
Meanwhile, US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz urged countries to oppose the resolution, arguing that it justified oppression and the suffering of the Cuban people.
