Bears QB addresses NFL analyst after Chicago’s victory
Caleb Williams addressed Richard Sherman’s NFL Top 5 rankings after the Chicago Bears defeated the New England Patriots 30–24 on Thursday Night Football, following his earlier frustration after the Bears’ win over the Atlanta Falcons. Williams completed 22 of 33 passes for 308 yards and two touchdowns against the Patriots.
The performance also increased Williams’ 2026 regular-season totals to 1,020 passing yards and five touchdown passes. Before the Patriots game, he had recorded 712 passing yards, three touchdown passes and one interception across three games. He had completed 66 of 91 pass attempts, posting a 72.5% completion rate and a 101.5 passer rating. Williams had also rushed 19 times for 110 yards and two touchdowns during those three games.
The Bears finished with 405 total yards and held a 20–7 lead at halftime before the Patriots reduced the deficit. Luther Burden III recorded four receptions for 130 yards and one touchdown, with all 130 receiving yards coming in the first half. D’Andre Swift contributed 78 rushing yards and one touchdown on 22 carries.
Following the victory, Williams referred to Sherman’s NFL power rankings while discussing the Bears’ place among the league’s top teams. Williams said: “Feels great. That time off just, it added a little bit more to me. You know, and I’m gonna keep using, I’m gonna keep bringing that energy, that fire in my eyes. You know, I’m gonna release it to my teammates and hopefully to the fans, they feel my energy. And hopefully we can get in your top five.”
Williams also added, “I see it all.”
Sherman’s Week 5 rankings provided additional context. The Chicago Bears were included in his Top 5 alongside the San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle Seahawks and Jacksonville Jaguars. Chicago had therefore already appeared among Sherman’s five highest-ranked teams that week.
Williams’ comment appeared to differ from Sherman’s published rankings regarding Chicago’s place on the list. Sherman later addressed the conversation surrounding the Bears standing in his rankings.
The Bears will enter their next game at 5–2 following the win over the Patriots. Their upcoming schedule includes a matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, while attention remains on Williams’ exchange with Sherman.
