Actress Selma Blair has been arrested after allegedly trying to open a plane door in midflight before attacking a flight attendant and biting another, TMZ reports.
The actress, 54, was on a Delta flight bound for New York from Los Angeles on Sunday when the incident allegedly occurred. Blair was arrested shortly after the plane touched down at John F. Kennedy International Airport. According to the New York Port Authority, two flight attendants sustained injuries in the incident and Blair was taken to hospital for medical evaluation. The FBI is currently investigating the incident.
An eyewitness on the flight recorded a clip of what is allegedly Blair screaming as she was being taken off the plane.
Delta said the incident had no impact on the flight, which arrived early in New York.
“Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first,” an airline spokesperson told People.com on Monday.
‘Medical emergency’
A representative for the Legally Blonde and Cruel Intentions star said Blair was in the middle of a medical emergency.
“Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition,” a representative for Blair told People.com in a statement on Monday.
Dispatch audio published on TMZ calls for medical personnel to come to the landing gate.
“From the info I’ve got, sounds like there were two — yeah, one flight attendant and one passenger that sustained some minor injuries, a bloody nose as well as some bite marks as well,” the audio played. “So I don’t think when need an ambulance or anything like that, but we (could get) some medical personnel at the gate to look at their injuries.”
After a responder confirmed law enforcement and medical personnel were waiting at the gate, the dispatcher said, “And then one additional add on, it sounds like the disruptive passenger also bashed her head on the bulkhead or something like that.”
Health issues
In 2018, Blair announced she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a central nervous system condition that damages nerves and affects electrical signals in the brain. It can cause weakness of the muscles, changes in vision and memory loss. She said she had been in remission since 2021.
