US President Donald Trump has announced that he will lift many sanctions, restrictions and tariffs.
Reuters reported early Saturday, October 17, that the measures would be lifted just days before they were due to take effect under a law Trump signed last month.
According to the report, Trump’s executive order comes as he adopts a more conciliatory approach toward Russia while publicly criticizing Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The new law stipulated that tariffs of up to 100 percent would be imposed within 30 days on all goods imported into the United States from the five largest importers of Russian crude oil or gas.
The law also covered countries that knowingly purchased Russian oil or gas 30 days after its enactment, as well as the five countries identified as helping Russia circumvent sanctions.
However, Trump’s recent agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin to import diesel into the United States has drawn sharp criticism from European leaders and politicians in the US who oppose Trump.
