A new prospect has emerged for next season's PGA Tour. He is Blaze Brown, a 19-year-old American.
Brown finished second at the Tour Championship, the final event of the Korn Ferry Tour season, held on the 12th Korean time at the par-71 Federal Club in Glen Allen, Virginia. The result lifted him to ninth in the Korn Ferry Tour points standings for the season, securing one of the 20 PGA Tour cards awarded for next year.
Born in May 2007, Brown became the youngest player ever promoted from the Korn Ferry Tour to the PGA Tour, at 19 years, four months and 20 days. The previous record was held by former world No. 1 Jason Day of Australia at 19 years, 11 months and 23 days.
Brown offered a bold assessment of the achievement. "What I know for sure is that the golf ball doesn't care how old I am," he said of becoming the youngest to reach the PGA Tour. "The ball doesn't know whether I'm 60 or 19."
Brown had drawn attention early. As a high school junior in 2023, he was the medalist at the U.S. Amateur, breaking a youngest-ever record that had stood for 103 years since Bobby Jones set it in 1920. He learned golf from his father, but his athletic genes came from his mother. Rhonda Blades Brown played in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) and was the first player to make a 3-pointer in the league.
After standing out as an amateur, Brown turned professional in late 2024 instead of going to college. Playing as a temporary Korn Ferry Tour member last year, he tied for second at the Veritex Bank Championship, setting a new best result by a player 18 or younger on the tour. The previous mark belonged to Kim Si-woo, who tied for 11th at the Mid-Atlantic Championship.
While competing on the Korn Ferry Tour this year, Brown also made 11 PGA Tour starts and made the cut in nine of them. In the second round of the American Express in January, he shot a 60 to set a course record, and he posted two top-10 finishes: third at the Puerto Rico Open in March and a tie for ninth at the Myrtle Beach Classic in May. He later tied for 14th at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, earning special temporary member status on the PGA Tour.
