Kohima, Oct 14: Nagaland Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday reviewed preparations for the 27th edition of the Hornbill Festival 2026 at Kisama Heritage Village, stressing the need for coordination among departments and stakeholders ahead of the state’s flagship cultural event.
Rio convened a meeting of the State Government’s High Powered Committee at Kisama to assess the progress of preparations and review arrangements for the festival.
The meeting was attended by Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along, representatives of various line departments and other stakeholders involved in organising the annual event.
Discussions focused on overall preparedness, interdepartmental coordination and ensuring a smooth experience for visitors, participants and local communities.
Popularly known as the “Festival of Festivals”, the Hornbill Festival brings together Nagaland’s diverse tribal communities to showcase their traditions, indigenous knowledge, traditional attire, folk music, dances, handicrafts, cuisine and cultural practices.
Held annually at Kisama Heritage Village near Kohima, the festival features traditional tribal morungs and cultural spaces that offer visitors a glimpse into the rich heritage and diversity of Naga society.
Over the years, the festival has emerged as a major attraction for domestic and international tourists, helping promote Nagaland’s cultural identity and tourism potential. It also provides a platform for local artisans, performers, entrepreneurs and cultural practitioners to reach wider audiences.
The event creates opportunities to promote indigenous products, traditional craftsmanship, local cuisine and creative industries while encouraging cultural exchange among communities from across India and abroad.
As preparations gather pace, the state government and participating stakeholders are working to ensure effective arrangements for the upcoming edition. The festival remains a key platform for showcasing Naga heritage, community traditions and hospitality while strengthening Nagaland’s position as a cultural tourism destination.
