Ethereum cancels Oct. 26 Glamsterdam upgrade on Hoodi testnet

Ethereum developers have announced the cancellation of the Glamsterdam upgrade scheduled for October 26 on the Hoodi testnet. The decision leaves node operators instructed to continue using software without the planned fork, as the timeline for mainnet activation remains undecided. This development comes after the Glamsterdam protocol upgrade had already been activated on the Sepolia testnet earlier this month, leaving the Ethereum community uncertain about the next steps in the upgrade’s rollout.

Key Takeaways

• The cancellation of the Glamsterdam upgrade on Hoodi suggests uncertainty in Ethereum’s development timeline, potentially impacting market sentiment.
• Pricing in Ethereum prediction markets appears consistent with decreased confidence in achieving a $3,300 price target in October.
• The decision to halt the upgrade on Hoodi reflects ongoing challenges in implementing key protocol changes, including block-level access lists and gas-pricing adjustments.

What to Watch

Any announcements from the Ethereum Foundation or core developers regarding a revised timeline for the Glamsterdam upgrade will be closely monitored. Clarity on mainnet activation could influence market perceptions and pricing. Additionally, any further delays or technical issues in related testnets could affect Ethereum’s price expectations in the near term, suggesting that developments in this area may indicate shifts in future market movements.
