U.S. hockey teams typically turn over coaching staffs after an Olympics. John Wroblewski is sticking around.
Wroblewski, the head coach of the U.S. women's team that took the program's third gold in Milan, agreed to a contract extension that will keep him in the role through the 2030 Alps Games, USA Hockey announced Friday.
He will become the first U.S. women's or men's head coach at consecutive Olympics since Ben Smith was at the helm for the first three Winter Games with women's hockey in 1998, 2002 and 2006.
“John has done a terrific job over the last four years and there’s no question our program has benefitted from his experience, leadership and passion,” Katie Million, senior director of the USA Hockey Women’s National Team Program, said in a press release. “We’re excited he’ll be with us for the next quad and look forward to building on the momentum that was established by winning gold in Milan.”
Wroblewski, 45, was named the head coach in May 2022, succeeding Joel Johnson, who coached the team to silver at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
In addition to the Olympic title, Wroblewski's teams won world titles in 2023 and 2025 after taking runner-up to rival Canada in 2022 and 2024.
Wroblewski was head coach of the U.S. men’s national team development program from 2016-20 and was head coach of the U.S. men’s U18 team at world championships in 2017 and 2019.
Before taking the U.S. women's head coaching job, he was head coach of AHL's Ontario Reign for two seasons
He will coach the U.S. at the next World Championship from Nov. 6-16 in Denmark. The roster has not been named yet.
