Six Flags has announced that it will be adding seat belts to the rollercoaster Goliath and other “gigacoasters” following the death of Hassan Kariem, who plunged to his death after he was flung from his seat earlier this month.
JUST IN: Six Flags says they will be adding seat belts to Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia, and “other coasters with a similar restraint,” after the fatal incident a few weeks ago. Six Flags has confirmed that the following roller coasters will be receiving the added safety belts: - Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia - Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America - Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure When asked for a timetable on when the safety belts could be installed, Six Flags provided this statement: “The timing may vary by attraction based on the reviews, engineering requirements, availability of components and applicable approval processes. We will not reopen an affected attraction until the necessary work and reviews associated with that ride have been completed. We will provide park-specific updates as information becomes available.”

“What happened has deeply affected all of us at Six Flags,” the company said in a press release. “Safety has always been fundamental to the experience we provide for our guests. Across our parks, guests have taken more than one billion rides over the past four years, supported by comprehensive safety, maintenance and inspection programs. That commitment requires constant vigilance and determination to continually improve.”
The company confirmed that Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia would remain closed until the changes to the ride had been made. The company has also stated that eight other rides across five separate venues would remain closed “out of an abundance of caution” until those rides could receive similar updates.
Six Flags parks across the country will otherwise remain open, but investigations into the death of Kariem are still ongoing.
