Samir Belfkih, an academic and former parliamentarian from the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), has been appointed Morocco’s minister of territorial planning, urbanism, housing and city policy, alongside his role as government spokesperson.
Originally from Sefrou, Belfkih has directed the National Higher School of Arts and Crafts (ENSAM) in Rabat since 2022.
He previously taught at several Moroccan universities and holds a doctorate in sciences from Montpellier II University in France.
Belfkih served in Morocco’s House of Representatives between 2011 and 2016 and sat on the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra Regional Council from 2015 to 2021.
A member of PAM’s political bureau since 2016, he also contested the party’s leadership in 2020 before withdrawing.
His appointment marks his first ministerial position. He succeeds Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri at the housing ministry while taking over government spokesperson duties from Mustapha Baitas.
