The Kollam district committee of Kerala Karshaka Sangham will organize a night march in Kollam city on Wednesday demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and expressing solidarity with ongoing protests in Delhi, said district president V. K. Anirudhan and district secretary Biju K. Mathew at a press meet here on Tuesday. The march will be flagged off by Karshaka Sangham State secretary Valsan Panoli at 5 PM from Pallimukku, Kollam. CPI(M) district secretary S. Sudevan, Karshaka Sangham State joint secretary George Mathew, and former MLA, M. Naushad will also participate in the event.
According to the organizers, the demonstration serves as a stern warning against the Election Commission’s action of illegally disenfranchising nearly 13 crore citizens, infringing upon constitutional rights, and undermining the democratic process. “Furthermore, the night march will register strong protest against the high-handedness of the Delhi Police toward senior political figures and student demonstrators at Jantar Mantar,” they said. At the press meet the leaders also condemned the police behavior toward CPI(M) General Secretary M. A. Baby, Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan, Members of Parliament, MLAs, senior women leaders, and youth and student organization representatives who had gathered in Delhi to express solidarity with protesting students. Hundreds of farmers and organizational workers from various area committees across Kollam district are expected to join the night march in full strength.
