DOVER — Riley Thomas scored a goal and added an assist as the fourth-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas field hockey team beat No. 5 Plymouth, 2-1 on Friday in a Division II quarterfinal.
"This season, we've learned to adapt as a team and I think that helped us today," St. Thomas head coach Lindsay Dobecki said. "As a coaching staff, we're really proud of the effort from everyone and, of course, the outcome. This team has worked so hard to get to this point and it showed today."
St. Thomas will now play No. 1 Souhegan in a semifinal on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at Exeter High School. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
"We're excited to be able to move on to the semifinals and look forward to continuing to make improvements as a team," Dobecki said.
The other semifinal features No. 2 Bow and No. 3 Hanover. Bow advanced with a 5-0 win over No. 10 Oyster River.
Thomas opened the scoring with 3:41 remaining in the first quarter. After Plymouth tied the game, Leah Walsh netted the game-winner with 3:26 left in regulation.
"The win today was overall just a great team effort," Dobecki said. "We had so many players step up in big ways to help set up plays. What really stood out was the way everyone supported each other on the field and moved as a unit."
