Willis and Edmonds didn’t see eye to eye on retirement policy.
National’s finance spokesperson Nicola Willis says the age of eligibility for Super will increase if re-elected, but her Labour counterpart Barbara Edmonds is committing to keep it at 65.
The comments came earlier this month during Beyond the Ballot 2026, an election debate on the economy, finance and business policy co-hosted by MYOB and NZME.
Willis said National believed raising the age of eligibility was the best way to make Super “continue to be fair, fundable and sustainable”. Edmonds, meanwhile, argued for a more holistic approach to retirement, saying “by picking at little things, it has a longer-term impact”.
