Kennesaw State has won its last three consecutive clashes against Liberty ahead of Thursday’s throwdown, but that streak is at serious risk of coming to an end at Fifth Third Stadium. The Flames are 5-1 overall this season and currently riding a hot streak of five straight wins, with their only loss of the year thus far falling at James Madison in Week 1.
Conference USA is shaping up to be a straight shootout between Liberty and Jacksonville State, who each have five overall wins so far this season atop the standings. Meanwhile, the Owls have been on a barren run since their season-opening victory over West Georgia almost two months ago.
It’s not all bad for second-year KSU coach Jerry Mack, however, following a rise in offensive output in recent weeks. After scoring 40 points combined over the course of three games, the Owls have bested that tally during their last two defeats to Jax State (27-26) and Missouri State (24-21), losing by a combined margin of just four points.
Liberty hasn’t had that issue in possession, however, and is averaging 34.8 points per outing over the course of its active five-win streak. Much of that is down to the dynamic duo of junior quarterback Deshawn Purdie and senior receiver Makai Jackson, with the latter leading the team on five touchdowns this season.
