ADEN – Yemen's government has called on the United Nations Security Council to condemn what it described as attacks by the Iran-aligned Houthi group on government institutions, public service facilities, residential neighborhoods, and civilian infrastructure, while demanding accountability for the consequences of such actions.
The appeal was made in two letters sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the President of the Security Council for October, Aglaya Balta, regarding the recent Houthi escalation and the attack on Al-Maashiq Presidential Palace in the interim capital, Aden.
According to the letters, the attack was carried out on October 15 using missiles and drones, resulting in the deaths of five security personnel and injuries to 16 others. The government described the targeting of the presidential and government headquarters as a serious escalation that threatens Yemen's security and stability.
The correspondence also highlighted what it said were Houthi attacks on residential areas and displaced persons' gatherings in Marib, as well as assaults on civilians and populated neighborhoods in Taiz and Lahj. It further cited repeated attacks on Aden International Airport, warning of their implications for civilian safety and regional security.
Yemen's government urged the Security Council to take a clear stance against attacks targeting civilians and civilian objects and to press for an immediate halt to such actions.
