Taiz – Yemeni sources reported on Friday that airstrikes targeted Houthi vehicles and gatherings west of Taiz city, coinciding with ongoing clashes on the southern and western outskirts of the city. Dozens have been killed and wounded in the past 48 hours.
The sources stated that the airstrikes targeted locations around Mount Han, Al-Saleh Gardens, and Wadi Al-Dhabab, west of Taiz, without specifying who carried them out.
They confirmed the continuation of clashes between government forces and the Houthis, noting that the fighting and airstrikes resulted in dozens of casualties on both sides, mostly Houthis, according to their estimates.
In the Sabr Al-Mawadim district, south of Taiz governorate, sources said that clashes between residents and the Houthis are still ongoing.
They added that Houthi militants stormed dozens of homes in the district's villages, as the fighting continued.
These developments come a day after a missile attack launched by the Houthis on Thursday targeted the presidential palace in Aden, southern Yemen.
A Yemeni minister told AFP that several missiles struck the palace, confirming that Prime Minister Shaya al-Zindani was inside at the time of the attack but was unharmed.
An AFP correspondent in Aden witnessed smoke rising from the palace area as ambulances entered the scene.
This is the first attack on the presidential palace in Aden since the escalation of violence in Yemen resumed last July, following the collapse of the 2012 ceasefire, according to AFP.
Aden holds strategic importance as the temporary seat of the Yemeni government since the Houthis seized control of Sana'a in 2014.
