Coach Ben Johnson’s Chicago Bears got a 31-23 road win over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 6 action while honoring legendary coach Mike Ditka in a special way. Caleb Williams had a successful return to the gridiron and so did one of the team’s best defensive backs, who is being called Johnson’s new secret weapon.
NFL insider Ari Meirov spoke about the play of defensive back Kyler Gordon, who returned from a calf injury to make a huge impact.
Gordon had three sacks, three tackles for loss, two quarterback hits and two forced fumbles, turning in one of the best defensive stat lines of the year so far. He forced a fumble against Falcons QB Michael Penix Jr. that was recovered by the Bears and helped protect their late game lead.

Williams’ return also led to a breakout game from maligned tight end Colston Loveland, who showed up in a big way against the Falcons. Luther Burden III rounded out the Bears’ standout performers in the passing game as he led the team with eight catches for 95 yards and a touchdown. Roschon Johnson paced the Bears in the running game with 13 carries for 51 yards and a touchdown, showing Johnson’s team’s depth one more time.
The Bears have a short break before welcoming Drake Maye’s New England Patriots to Soldier Field on October 22 in what could be an early Super Bowl preview. Gordon isn’t well known among casual NFL fans, but he is talented enough to be the difference between a long playoff run and an early exit, judging by his first game back this season.
