Tajikistan’s Mufti Saidmukarram Abduqodirзода has urged Tajik labor migrants in Russia to support and respect one another, uphold moral values, and remain actively involved in raising their children and caring for their families.
He made the appeal on October 15 during a meeting with Tajik labor migrants in Ufa, the capital of Russia’s Boshkortostan Republic, according to the Council of Ulema of Tajikistan.
Abduqodirзода stressed that migrants should maintain regular contact with their spouses and children, participate in their upbringing, and ensure that their everyday needs are met.
He reportedly also emphasized the importance of loyalty to the state and the people, preserving national values, and respecting and caring for the Tajik language.
In August, the mufti urged parents to take a greater interest in the lives of their children working abroad instead of focusing primarily on the money they send home.
He expressed concern that some parents send their children abroad for work after they finish school but rarely ask about their living conditions, social circles, or the problems they encounter.
“Why do you only ask about money? Why can’t you ask at least once who his friends are, which groups he spends time with, what kind of people they are and what they want?” Abduqodirзода said.
He urged parents to regularly ask their children about the people they associate with abroad, who influences them, and what advice they receive. Even when young people earn their own income, he said, they still need their families’ attention, guidance, and advice.
