Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has flagged off the construction and rehabilitation of several access roads across Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo and Bunza local government areas to boost agricultural production, improve transportation and stimulate economic activities.
The projects include the 58-kilometre Bunza–Zogirma–Makera road, Unguwa Jeji-Gayi–Diggi–Maidahini road, and access roads in Aliero Quarters, behind Azbir Arena, the Old Garage area behind Texaco, and from Birnin Kebbi Police Station Junction to Nagari College.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremonies on Tuesday, Idris said the projects were part of his administration’s commitment to fulfilling its promises and providing infrastructure that would directly improve the lives of residents.
He explained that the roads would connect communities, ease the movement of people and agricultural produce, and open up economic opportunities for farmers, traders and other business operators.
“The construction of these roads will bring communities closer together and create opportunities for our people to excel in agriculture, trade and other economic activities.
“Improved road infrastructure is essential to economic development because it makes the movement of people, goods and services easier and more efficient”, the governor said.
Idris said his administration recognised the importance of accessible road networks in promoting rural development, strengthening commercial activities and improving the welfare of residents.
He particularly highlighted the 58-kilometre Bunza–Zogirma–Makera road, noting that although it was not part of his original campaign promises, his government considered it necessary because of its economic significance to the benefiting communities.
According to him, the decision to award the contract was driven by the need to improve connectivity, support agricultural activities and strengthen commercial relations across the areas.
The contract for the road project was awarded to M/S China Zhonghao Nigeria Limited.
“All these roads are very important to Kebbi State, particularly in the areas of agriculture, trade and other economic activities.
“Our administration is determined to provide infrastructure that directly improves the lives of our people and contributes to the overall development of the state”, Idris said.
The governor said the projects reflected his administration’s determination to extend infrastructure development to communities whose economic activities depend largely on efficient transportation and access to markets.
Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Works, Umar Muslim, assured residents that the projects would be executed in accordance with approved specifications and quality standards.
He said the Ministry of Works would monitor the contractors to ensure compliance with the terms of their contracts and the required construction standards.
Muslim said the projects would improve transportation, facilitate the movement of goods and services, and create better conditions for agricultural development and private investment.
He commended the governor for approving the projects, adding that improved road infrastructure would stimulate economic activities and contribute to increased internally generated revenue for the state.
The commissioner expressed confidence that the roads, upon completion, would improve connectivity among the benefiting communities and support sustainable economic growth across Kebbi State.
