A 58-year-old doctor who is a co-defendant in the case concerning the death of singer Giorgos Mazonakis has again distanced himself from his 56-year-old wife’s professional activities and denied any involvement in her treatment of the singer, submitting a new memorandum to the investigating magistrate.
In the memorandum, the doctor presents medical records relating to a patient he examined that day, including a cardiological assessment, an electrocardiogram and a handwritten referral for further tests, including a myocardial scintigraphy scan and a CT coronary angiogram.
“These have no connection whatsoever with the so-called ‘holistic’ practices or any other non-conventional therapeutic activity,” he states.
He adds that he also examined another patient that day and prescribed specialist medical tests. He maintains that his medical practices have no connection with those of his wife or with alternative medicine, citing the documents and witness statements as evidence.
The doctor stresses that his marital relationship with the 56-year-old woman cannot form the basis of a criminal charge against him, nor should he bear any form of family responsibility in the case. He says that although his separate medical practice operates in the same premises as his wife’s, he neither had any connection with nor bears responsibility for what happened to the deceased patient.
Regarding Mazonakis, the doctor states that he had absolutely no involvement with the singer, his visit to the shared medical premises or any treatment he received. He says he left the premises to have lunch at a restaurant when the singer arrived and did not participate in his reception, examination or scheduled treatment.
Meanwhile, another patient who visited the doctor at the medical practice on Karneadou Street in Kolonaki on the afternoon of the Wednesday in question gave evidence on the same day.
The patient said his appointment ran from 1 pm to 2 pm and that the doctor concentrated on examining him and issuing referrals for an electrocardiogram and a CT scan. He said the doctor did not mention Mazonakis.
The witness added that he saw the singer leaving the practice at around 2 pm and greeted him because they had known each other for years. He also noticed that Mazonakis had a plaster on his head.
