The agent automates the routine work of matching receipts to card transactions while keeping finance teams in control of every decision—reflecting how Extend is building all of its AI functionality: useful first, transparent always, and never at the expense of oversight.
Businesses want AI that gives them time back. But when that AI touches company money and financial records, the bar is higher. Finance leaders want to know what data a tool can see, who signs off on its decisions, and whether they can understand and correct what it did. For many small and mid-market businesses, those questions, not a lack of interest, are what slow AI adoption.
"Every business owner we talk to wants AI to take the tedious work off their plate, and every one of them also wants to know exactly what it's doing with their data," said Andrew Jamison, CEO and Co-Founder of Extend. "We don't think those two things are in conflict. As a small business ourselves, we want the same thing: tools that make the busywork disappear without creating new risk. That's why we are building all of our AI agents to handle the routine work well and to show their work at every step. We help banks deliver AI their customers will actually trust, so no one has to trade control for convenience."
The Receipt Agent was shaped by direct conversations with finance teams and built to earn trust through useful, understandable automation:
• Finance teams keep the final say. The Receipt Agent handles the searching and matching; people stay in charge of reviews and approvals.
• Every match is explainable. Finance teams can see what the agent matched and why, and correct it when needed.
• Receipts stay secure. The Receipt Agent automatically searches for and retrieves receipts from employees’ Gmail or Outlook accounts, under the same security and access controls that protect their spend data today.
"In finance, trust is earned with the boring stuff first," Jamison added. "The technology to automate far more of this work already exists. What's harder is earning the right to be trusted with it. We would rather show our work and go slower than move fast and lose that trust, and we think that's exactly the approach banks need as they bring AI to their business customers.
Extend will continue working directly with bank partners to introduce AI capabilities into their business banking offerings responsibly, starting with the work where automation is most useful and easiest to verify, and expanding as businesses gain confidence in what it can do.
