Assam’s Jintimani Kalita on Thursday received her first ODI call-up, drafted into India’s squad for the three-match series against Zimbabwe in place of fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur, who has been ruled out of the contest. The series begins in Vadodara on Friday, October 23, and Jintimani could make her ODI debut.
Renuka is still building up the bowling workload needed for the 50-over format, and she is doing so at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. The Women’s Selection Committee named Jintimani as her replacement for the Muthoot FinCorp series. The Assam player was part of the T20I series in Raipur that has just concluded and has already travelled with the team to Vadodara.
Smriti Mandhana leads the updated squad, with Deepti Sharma as vice-captain. The rest of the group comprises Shafali Verma, Pratika Rawal, Harmanpreet Kaur, Harleen Deol, Tejal Hasabnis, wicketkeepers Richa Ghosh and Yastika Bhatia, Vaishnavi Sharma, Nandni Sharma, Sree Charani, Kranti Gaud, Sayali Satghare and Jintimani.
All three matches will be played in Vadodara, each starting at 2 pm IST. After the opener on Friday, the second ODI will be held on Sunday, October 25, and the series will wind up on Wednesday, October 28.
