IDF says Hezbollah moving weapons that the Lebanese Army claimed to have already seized

The IDF on Tuesday provided video footage showing Hezbollah using a truck to move weapons from one location to another which it said the Lebanese army was supposed to seize.

Next, the footage shows the IDF striking the Hezbollah truck as it pulls away from the original location, with the military saying that the case in question displayed one example of many in which the Lebanese army lied about having dealt with a Hezbollah weapons issue.

The IDF declined on Tuesday to reveal when the strike in question took place, though based on the rest of the narrative it publicized, it likely took place around or after mid-2026.

According to the IDF, in December 2025, a military asset in the Kfarra area of southern Lebanon, which Hezbollah had used to store weapons, was referred to the Lebanese Army for handling through the US-led monitoring mechanism.

The Lebanese Army subsequently stated that the asset had been addressed, said the IDF.

Several months after this statement, the IDF asserted that it was discovered that Hezbollah had continued operating at the site and had even independently removed weapons and military equipment to preserve them as part of the terrorist organization’s capabilities.

Several months after the Lebanese Army had already declared that it had addressed the asset, Hezbollah was still able to use it for its own purposes, the IDF claimed.

Further, the IDF stated that "the accompanying footage shows Hezbollah operatives loading weapons stored at the site onto a truck in an attempt to remove them and preserve them as part of the terrorist organization’s capabilities."

"After the activity was identified, IDF troops struck the truck carrying the weapons removed from the site. The footage indicates that, after the site was reported as having been addressed, Hezbollah activity was identified there in an attempt to remove and preserve weapons and military equipment," according to the IDF.

Next, the IDF stated that, "The Intelligence Directorate has identified instances in which elements within the Lebanese Army coordinated with Hezbollah regarding enforcement activities."

"This coordination assisted efforts to prevent, delay, or thwart enforcement operations and enabled Hezbollah to prepare in advance to remove and transfer weapons from the area," contended the IDF.

Tuesday was not the first time the IDF has presented such evidence, with the military having presented extensive evidence in the past of even certain senior Lebanese army officials cooperating with Hezbollah in 2024-2025.

Subsequent to past such disclosures, the US has said that it addressed the issue with the Lebanese army to improve the situation.

IDF officials have complimented the US for its efforts, but have claimed that the Lebanese army continues to fall short in being a proactive partner to clear southern Lebanon of Hezbollah.

According to the IDF, "The Lebanese Army is responsible for ensuring the full and thorough implementation of all tasks assigned to it."

"The IDF emphasizes that it expects the Lebanese Army to act more decisively and effectively to fulfill its responsibilities and prevent the presence of weapons and military infrastructure belonging to the Hezbollah terrorist organization in southern Lebanon," said the IDF.

Next, the IDF said that both it and "the Intelligence Directorate, continue to monitor Hezbollah’s attempts to rebuild and strengthen its capabilities and will not allow any violation that poses a threat to the State of Israel and its civilians."

Moreover, the IDF said that Hezbollah "dragged Lebanon and its residents into a war in service of Iran during Operation Roaring Lion, launching thousands of rockets, including from areas south of the Litani River, where no armed elements, assets, or weapons belonging to anyone other than the Lebanese government or UNIFIL should be present."

Officials from the US MARCENT military command, which supervises US-Israeli-Lebanese army relations, had not responded to an inquiry about the issue by press time.

The IDF added that, "Under the 2024 understandings, which guided Israeli and Lebanese actions until Operation Roaring Lion, the Lebanese Army was responsible for acting against the presence of weapons and military infrastructure belonging to the Hezbollah terrorist organization in southern Lebanon."

"However, this responsibility was not fulfilled as required, allowing Hezbollah to continue entrenching itself, arming itself, and building military infrastructure in the area," said the IDF.

In early 2025, IDF sources told The Jerusalem Post that the Lebanese army had improved to unseen levels in enforcement against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, though it still fell substantially short of full enforcement.

In its statement on Tuesday, the IDF said, "Even during the Lebanese Army’s 2025 Operation Homeland Shield, a significant gap remained between statements and the reality on the ground, and the operation did not dismantle the terrorist organization’s military capabilities or prevent it from continuing its activities and buildup."

At the same time as the above events, Lebanese and Israeli military delegations are meeting in Tampa, Florida for another round of US led negotiations after around a half-dozen earlier rounds led to the start of a process for an Israeli partial withdrawal from southern Lebanon, but then got stuck on Jerusalem's accusation that the Lebanese army was not sufficiently clearing Hezbollah.

The negotiations are taking place at the headquarters of US Central Command (CENTCOM) and are projected to continue through Wednesday.

If more partial IDF withdrawals and land transfers take place, they would be expected to be coordinated by US Lt. Gen. Clearfield. He was the main coordinator with Israel and Lebanon on such issues from fall 2024 until the early 2026 war, with support from around 30 other American military officials.

IDF sources said in July that Clearfield properly understands the weaknesses that the Lebanese army has, though they could not vouch for whether American political officials would hold up the land transfers if necessary from an Israeli security perspective which might clash with their timeline for wrapping up Lebanon as an issue.

In the past, MARCENT officials have declined to confirm that they have made any progress in Lebanon.

The Post understands that Clearfield met with IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Eyal Zamir on July 1 and secretly visited Lebanon on July 2.
