KUALA LUMPUR: "The bride and groom haven't said a word, so why are people making a fuss?"
That was the response of popular TV host Datuk Aznil Nawawi—affectionately known as Pak Nil—when asked why he was not seen at the recent wedding of Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and singer Bella Astillah.
Pak Nil, 64, clarified that he was invited but could not attend due to prior commitments.
He added that aside from being invited to the couple's solemnisation ceremony and reception, he was also asked to serve as master of ceremonies.
"I simply wasn't available to attend. A representative for Syed Saddiq had actually invited me even before the wedding date was made public.
"I couldn't make it to either the solemnisation or the reception because I had my own event to attend. I was also asked to host the wedding, and I truly regret not being able to fulfill that request," he told Berita Harian yesterday.
Responding to a Threads user who brought up his absence, Pak Nil suggested the public shouldn't make such a big deal about whether someone attends a wedding.
He noted that everyone has their own busy schedule, and what matters most is wishing the newlyweds well.
"Everyone has his or her own schedule. What's important is that we pray for their marriage and their happiness. The bride and groom haven't said a word, so why are people complaining?" he said.
Earlier, a user on Threads had questioned Pak Nil's absence from the wedding of the couple—affectionately dubbed "BASS" by fans—and even claimed the presenter was never invited in the first place.
Syed Saddiq and Bella tied the knot on Oct 10 in a solemnisation ceremony held on the 118th floor of the Merdeka Maybank Tower.
