5G to 6G – What’s Next in Internet Speed

6G could deliver peak speeds of up to 1 Tbps in research targets, making it potentially 50 times faster than 5G's theoretical 20 Gbps limit.

6G aims to reduce network delays to as low as 0.1 milliseconds, supporting faster responses for demanding real-time applications.

6G could use terahertz frequencies to carry more data, although shorter signal ranges and obstacles may require more advanced network infrastructure.

Artificial intelligence could become a core part of 6G networks, helping manage traffic, optimize connections, and improve network performance automatically.

Holographic calls, immersive virtual reality, and advanced augmented reality could become more practical with 6G's higher bandwidth and lower latency.

6G could support digital twins, connected robots, and autonomous vehicles that need fast, reliable communication to coordinate operations.

Satellite and ground-based networks could work together under 6G, helping extend connectivity to remote areas, oceans, and underserved regions.

A 100 GB game could theoretically download in seconds at speeds near 1 Tbps, but actual download times will depend on network conditions and device capabilities.

6G is still being developed, with standards progressing toward 2030. The 1 Tbps figure is a target, not a guaranteed everyday mobile speed.
