A shooter is dead and two people are hospitalized after reports of an active shooter incident at a Bend, Ore. elementary school, the Bend Police Department said Thursday.
Police have confirmed multiple victims, including children. Their condition is not known at this time. The incident was reported at Silver Rail Elementary School.
Bend Police say the suspect was shot and killed, “possibly by a bystander.”
Police first responded to the report of an active shooter at 12:59 p.m. PDT, and were on the scene three minutes later, at 1:02 p.m.
Bend Police said law enforcement was evacuating each classroom, and transporting children to Journey Church for family reunification, around five minutes from Silver Rail Elementary School.
In a statement, Bend-La Pine Schools Superintendent Steven Cook extended sympathy to the families and those affected.
“No words can adequately express the grief our community is experiencing,” Cook said. “Our immediate priorities are caring for our students and staff and assisting law enforcement and emergency responders.”
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
