Google.org has committed $15 million in funding to The/Nudge to support the growth and digital adoption of India’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
India has over 90 million small businesses that employ more than 345 million people. However, many of these businesses face challenges in accessing credit, managing compliance and reaching digital markets.
The funding will support the development of scalable artificial intelligence (AI) tools to improve MSMEs’ access to formal credit, market discovery and compliance solutions. The initiative is part of Google.org’s efforts to support India’s national AI roadmap.
The programme will include an open call for proposals to identify innovative solutions for MSMEs. It will also feature a multilingual, voice-led platform to train local talent in Tier 3 and Tier 4 towns in job-ready skills and connect them directly with small businesses.
Google.org provides funding, programmes and technical expertise to organisations working to expand access to opportunities. Its focus areas include knowledge, skills and learning, scientific progress, and stronger communities. The organisation applies Google’s technology, research and resources to support initiatives aimed at addressing social and economic challenges.
