Describing Khammam district as a Congress stronghold, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka urged party cadres to work unitedly to ensure a landslide victory for party candidate Ramreddy Sarvotham Reddy in the forthcoming Graduates’ MLC election.
Addressing a meeting organised by the District Congress Committee (DCC) in Khammam on Saturday, he said Mr. Sarvotham Reddy, the party’s candidate for the Nalgonda-Khammam-Warangal Graduates’ constituency, belonged to a family that worked with dedication and commitment for the Congress.
He urged the party cadres to take up the graduates’ voter registration drive as a movement and ensure that every eligible graduate was enrolled as a voter. He suggested holding meetings in all five Assembly constituencies in the district, followed by district-level, mandal and village levels, to accelerate the voter registration process.
Highlighting the Congress government’s welfare initiatives, Mr. Vikramarka urged party cadres to distribute pamphlets detailing the welfare schemes to every household.
He cited distribution of fine rice to 3.42 crore people through the public distribution system, free electricity of up to 200 units a month to eligible households under the Gruha Jyothi scheme, free electricity for around 30 lakh agricultural pump sets, Rajiv Aarogyasri and the Indiramma Indlu housing scheme.
Mr. Vikramarka said that the government was working towards launching the Indiramma Bima scheme on November 19, coinciding with the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The scheme envisages insurance cover of ₹5 lakh for eligible families in the event of the death of the primary breadwinner, providing financial security irrespective of caste, religion or region, he said.
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Khammam MP R. Raghuram Reddy were among those who attended the meeting.
