A woman’s e-hailing ride took an unexpected turn when a driver’s question about hope inspired her to reflect on life’s struggles and share a message of her own.
WHEN we take an e-hailing ride, the journey can either be a quiet one or filled with interesting conversations that help bridge the gap between driver and passenger.
Recently, a woman’s heartwarming encounter with an e-hailing driver touched hearts online after she noticed a simple question taped to the back of the front passenger seat which said: “When was the last time you (felt) hopeful?”
Beside it was a hanging basket containing a pen and notebook, along with a metal bucket filled with pieces of paper believed to contain messages of hope.
“Rather than scroll on my phone the whole way, I could sit with my own thoughts for a while,” she wrote in her viral post.
While passengers might usually spend their journeys scrolling on their phones or sitting quietly with their thoughts, the driver’s question prompted the woman to write her own message of hope.
In response to a comment, the woman reflected on how she had been trying to process the question while thinking about her own life experiences. She also noticed that the bucket was filled with notes, which helped her realise that she was not alone in her struggles.
The heartwarming encounter serves as a reminder that small gestures can make a meaningful difference, even among strangers sharing a brief journey.
As the post gained traction, several commenters also claimed to have taken a ride with the same e-hailing driver and shared their positive experiences with him.
“Honestly, this small moment can make an ordinary ride feel memorable. The question is simple, but it can make others pause for a while and reflect instead of automatically scrolling on their phones until they reach their destination,” one user said.
“I cannot get on an e-hailing ride like this. The driver would have to pull over to the side of the road for a heart-to-heart talk,” another commenter remarked playfully.
“If I were a passenger in that car, I would be in tears while writing,” another user said.
