The San Francisco 49ers have provided some hilarious moments over the past couple weeks, which seems to somewhat soothe the pain of fans who don’t know if they’re watching a football game or an episode of “The Pitt.”
Injuries aside, fans were given the utter joy of wide receiver Mike Evans’ brutal trolling of Seattle Seahawks cornerback Travon Diggs during last Sunday’s game.
Yes, it’s still being discussed today. And it’s still funny.
Now, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has shared a locker room story that left him grasping at straws when he accidentally mixed up two of his players last week, one of which was starting punter Corliss Waitman.
“Actually, I apologized to him because he came into the locker room two weeks ago with a hoodie on and I couldn’t see the back of him and I thought it was Malik (Turner, wide receiver) who we just signed and might have been here a few weeks. I went up to him to tell him ‘welcome back,’ and Corliss turned around and just stunned me. I’m like ‘you’re not Malik!’ And I just froze and walked away. I turned around and came right back and heard (Jon) Weeks say ‘man, he don’t even know who you are.’
“I was like, ‘Corliss, I know exactly who you are, I just froze, I thought you were Malik. Then I told Weeks I thought he was (Brock) Purdy so it evened out.”
Well, it happens.
