Filming begins for ‘Miami Vice ’85’, first-look out for Michael B. Jordan, Austin Butler

Filming of Miami Vice ’85 reboot has begun, and Universal Pictures have released the first character photos of Michael B. Jordan as Ricardo Tubbs and Austin Butler as Sonny Crockett.

Jordan stars as Ricardo Tubbs and Butler as Sonny Crockett in this new version of the hit 1980s detective series, which originally aired from 1984 to 1989.

Don Johnson played Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas played Tubbs in the original series, following two police detectives working undercover in Miami, Florida.

The reboot cast also includes Alden Ehrenreich, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone, Danny Ramirez, John Leguizamo, Andrew Schulz, Edi Gathegi, Walton Goggins, André Holland and Michael Irby.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, who recently helmed F1 and Top Gun: Maverick, the film will be released in US theaters on May 19, 2028. The India release date has not yet been announced.00:00

The official logline says the series is “inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the landmark television series that influenced culture and set the style of everything from fashion to filmmaking.”

The script was written by Dan Gilroy based on characters created by Anthony Yerkovich for the TV series. An earlier draft of the screenplay was written by Warren Singer, while Dylan Clark and Kosinski serve as producers.

Overseeing the project for Universal are Sara Scott, executive VP of production development, and Christina Hoffrogge, creative executive of production development.

Jordan won the Oscar for best actor last year for Sinners, and his next project is The Thomas Crown Affair with Adria Arjona, for which he is also the director. Butler will next star in A24’s Enemies, co-starring Jeremy Allen White.
