KUALA LUMPUR: The Election Commission (EC) will hold a special meeting to decide key dates for the Sarawak election after receiving official notification of the state assembly from its Speaker.
EC secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said the meeting date had yet to be fixed and would be announced later.
"We will wait for official notification from the Speaker before setting the relevant dates, taking into account various factors to ensure the smooth conduct of the election," he told Bernama.
On preparations, Khairul Shahril said the EC had begun making logistical arrangements, preparing equipment, training election personnel and identifying suitable polling centres.
On the EC's readiness, he said preliminary preparations included logistical arrangements, equipment supplies, training for election personnel and identifying suitable locations for polling centres.
"In terms of logistics, training and personnel, we are ready," he said.
He added that a proposal to use Optical Character Recognition-Voters Attendance (OCR-VA) technology in the state election would be submitted to EC members for evaluation before a decision was made.
Earlier today, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced that the state assembly would be dissolved effective Oct 26, paving the way for the 13th state election.
He said the decision was made after obtaining the consent of Sarawak Governor Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
