Golfers at Achimota Golf Club have combined competition with a campaign for better breast cancer awareness, as the 2026 Ocean Network Express (ONE) Pink Cup used the sport to draw attention to screening, early detection and support for patients facing treatment costs.
The tournament, held in Accra on Saturday, 17 October, brought together players, corporate sponsors and health advocates for an event designed to extend the impact of golf beyond the course.
At the centre of the initiative is support for people who cannot afford cancer treatment.
Proceeds from player registrations and special course activities are traditionally channelled towards the Breast Cancer Unit at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and patients receiving care at Achimota Hospital who face financial difficulties.
Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, attended as Special Guest of Honour.
She was welcomed at the clubhouse with a brief ceremonial golf lesson, adding a public profile to the campaign’s message about breast cancer awareness and access to care.
Organised by the Achimota Golf Club Ladies Section, led by Lady Captain Louanges Kous Mang, the annual competition brought together the sporting community around a cause affecting patients and families.
The 18-hole Stableford tournament featured men’s and women’s divisions across several handicap categories.
Frederick Semenu Duv Duvor led the men’s Group A division, for handicaps zero to 12, with 40 points. Elias George Hage finished second with 37, while Philip Ayesu took third place on 36.
The women’s Group A division produced a tight contest, with the three leading players all finishing on 34 points.
Letitia Amponsah-Mensah secured first place, ahead of Julienne Afi Amezado and Phindo Mohlala.
Joseph Tetteh recorded the highest score among the listed men’s Group B finishers, winning the handicap 13–24 category with 46 points.
Ibrahim Ahim Bah placed second with 42, followed by David Gyin Yimah Bo Boadi on 41.
Selina Buabeng won the women’s Group B competition with 45 points. Jessica E. Addo and Ina Sylvia Totimeh finished second and third respectively, both recording 39 points.
In the senior events, Adewale Adeoye-Famosa won the men’s title with 36 points, while Clara Price took the women’s crown with 38.
Additional awards recognised individual achievements during play. Ayesu collected the men’s Longest Drive prize on hole 17 and the men’s Closest to the Pin award on hole 18.
Amponsah-Mensah won the women’s Longest Drive prize, while Addo received the women’s Closest to the Pin award.
The ONE Pink Cup’s 2026 edition continued that combination of sport and social support at Achimota Golf Club, placing awareness and assistance for cancer patients alongside the pursuit of golfing honours.
